Mision

We in the ecosystem at Next-Gen-BIoTech EDIH, are on a mission to enable a green and circular future through digital transformation in biotechnology and healthy living industries (twin transition). Through the Next-Gen-BIoTech European Digital Innovation Hub, companies have access to specialized support to understand how digital technologies affect bio-based industries and how to define and implement their digital transformation plan. This is a space for training and experimentation (“test before invest”) in digital technologies for companies.

Next-Gen-BIoTech EDIH in the Southcentral region of Bulgaria helps businesses innovate and grow on an international scale. It is the region’s largest support network for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with international ambitions.

The Hub is active across the region. It brings together experts from member organisations that are renowned for their excellence in business support.

Food biotechnology

The fusion of biotechnology and digital transformation is reshaping the future of food. From AI-driven precision agriculture to lab-grown meat and blockchain-enabled traceability, innovation is revolutionizing how we produce, process, and consume food. Bio-based industries are at the heart of this shift, leveraging synthetic biology, microbiome research, and enzyme technology to create sustainable, nutritious, and personalized food solutions.

As digital tools optimize supply chains, enhance food security, and reduce waste, the industry must adapt to new regulatory landscapes and cybersecurity challenges. The future of food is smarter, greener, and more efficient—driven by the synergy of biotech and digitalization. Are we ready to embrace it?

Health care

Medicine is entering a transformative era where digitalization and biotechnology are redefining patient care. AI-powered diagnostics, genome sequencing, and wearable health tech are making treatments more precise than ever. Personalized medicine is no longer a distant dream—it’s becoming reality, tailoring therapies to an individual’s genetic makeup, lifestyle, and real-time health data.

From AI-assisted drug discovery to predictive healthcare models, innovation is accelerating at an unprecedented pace. But with these advancements come challenges: data privacy, regulatory adaptation, and ethical considerations. The future of healthcare isn’t just about treating disease—it’s about preventing it, personalizing it, and making it smarter. The question is no longer if digital transformation will reshape medicine, but how fast we can embrace it.

Circular bio-based economy. Internet of things

The Circular Bio-Based Economy & the IoT: Driving the Twin Transition

Industries are at the crossroads of two major transformations—the shift to a circular bio-based economy and the rapid digitalization powered by the Internet of Things (IoT). This twin transition is redefining production, resource management, and sustainability.

By integrating IoT with bio-based industries, companies can optimize supply chains, track material flows in real time, and reduce waste through smart monitoring and predictive analytics. Biomass, biofuels, and biodegradable materials will play a key role in replacing fossil-based resources, while digital tools ensure efficiency and transparency.

As industries embrace this shift, regulatory frameworks, investment in innovation, and cross-sector collaboration will be critical. The future is circular, connected, and data-driven—where sustainability meets smart technology to reshape entire value chains. Are businesses ready to lead the change?
